Why should I use social media for my business?
(Posted on 23/09/24)
Using social media for your business can be the key to success.
Keeping organised
Having a consistent social media posting strategy, across each of your business’ platforms, is the key to managing what can easily be forgotten or ignored.
Creating a social schedule in advance of each month can help to keep your social profiles on track, acting as a guide so you’re not scrambling trying to find something, anything, to post!
What to post
- Blog posts
- Web pages – interesting things from your website
- Re-tweets and shares of things relevant to your sector/ location (increases engagement)
- Business/ Sector news and information
- Latest projects
- Awards/ events – ones you or your clients/partners/suppliers/ trade associations might be attending
Top tips
- Post little and often – rather than leaving large lapses and gaps between posts, this will help to build trust with an audience. Aim to post at least two to three times per week across all channels
- Include images – posts with images gain three times more engagement than posts without.
- Include relevant hashtags – posts with at least one hashtag gain 12% more engagement.
- Link back to website – use social media posts to direct people back to your website as your website is your ‘shop window’. Think of your social media platforms as the worker bees, and your website is the hive – everything you do should always link back to the website. Nothing you post should be in isolation.
- Keep it relevant – post news relevant to your business and industry.
- Keep business and personal profiles separate – no-one wants to know what you had for lunch!
- Engage with your audience – respond to comments. Social media acts as an excellent customer service tool.
Analysing success
It is helpful to take a look at your social media profile analytics, to see what posts have worked well, and what hasn’t, to help inform your next social media posting strategy. It will also act as a benchmark, to show your level of growth.
All social media platforms provide analytics, which will help you to:
- Measure impressions – the number of people who have seen your post (However, it is better to be seen by a small number of people who are relevant than thousands of people who are not).
- Measure engagement – the number of people who have liked/shared/commented on your post.
