If you’re unsure of the benefits of social media for your business, just take a look at some of these stats…
- More than half of the world’s population uses social media.
- More people worldwide own mobiles than a toothbrush.
- As of March 2024, Google is the most visited website in the world (165 billion monthly visits), followed by YouTube (110 billion monthly visits) and then Facebook (18 billion monthly visits).
- There are over 320 million active X (Twitter) users worldwide and over 25.60 million in the UK.
- LinkedIn dominates the professional social media market – two professionals join LinkedIn every second.
- There were over 39.7 million LinkedIn users in the UK in early 2024.
- 90% of Instagram users follow at least one business.
- Over 500 hours’ worth of video content gets uploaded to YouTube every minute.
So many social platforms…
With so many social media platforms available to choose from, for optimum effectiveness, we recommend that your business has a presence at least across Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram. Remember, one individual is not likely to be consistently looking at your business posts across each of these platforms at once. So, having a business profile on each platform means that you can ensure you are reaching as a wide an audience as possible.
YouTube is the ideal social platform to share any video content created for your business, and there is a growing trend for businesses to share content via TikTok too, though we have found that this tends to be more B2C and product shares.

There are many reasons why you should consider optimising social media for your business:
- Builds trust and client relations – social media can feel as if you’re speaking one-on-one with someone, which is more engaging and helps people feel connected to you.
- Showcases your work and services – it’s a great way to bring some life to what you offer. Work examples, case studies and project images are particularly effective in showcasing what your company can do.
- Keeps audience up to date with business news – social media is often people’s first port of call to find out what’s new with a business, as it’s more timely than a website.
- Promote upcoming events – whether you are hosting or attending an event, social media is the ideal way to let your followers know so they can support you.
- Helps drive traffic to your website – including links back to your website will help drive people to it, where they will be more likely to contact you for your services.
