The power of video

Last year, our client CB Homes embarked on a large self-build project in the village of Kingsley in Cheshire. The scale and scope of the project was such that we wanted to find a way to record the progress of the build as each major phase was completed. Knowing the power of video, when it comes to content marketing, we decided to video the entire build, enlisting the assistance of renowned videographer Knew Productions.
Starting when the foundations were being dug, we visited the site on six separate occasions, interviewed the homeowners and members of the project team and ensured that the most significant moments of the build were videoed. Six separate short videos were edited and created and then, on completion of the build, one longer film, showing the entire self-build story from start to finish, was made.
The finished product
The exterior design of the new home is closely inspired by the barns and other agricultural buildings which dot the surrounding countryside, so as to be in keeping with its rural surroundings. Large tilt and turn windows provide a traditional look with modern benefits, creating a minimalist, clean finish, and a solid oak cottage style external door completes the property. The garden has been landscaped, with natural paving creating an outdoor terrace area for relaxing and entertaining. The grounds include a miniature lake, which is even large enough to accommodate mooring for a small boat. The owners chose to turf the exterior when the construction was completed. This means that the house, although brand new, already looks well established in its surroundings, providing uninterrupted views across the Cheshire countryside.
The final video really does justice to the scale and creativity of the house design, as well as providing useful information for would-be self-builders on what is involved when it comes to building your own home. In addition to providing excellent content for CB Homes’ social media and populating their YouTube channel, the videos have provided a means of showcasing CB Homes’ self-build turnkey package too and have been added to their useful self-build resources on the website.
Award winning entry
Once the project was finished, we thought the new house would make a perfect candidate to be entered for the prestigious What House? Awards in the Luxury House category. When we wrote the award entry, along with photography, we were able to include the videos, which really conveyed the quality and ‘grand design’ nature of the house. We were delighted for our client when our entry won the Bronze award.
